Safe Watch Program

Safe Watch Program

The Saugus Police Department is committed to the safety of our residents, especially those who may have a disability or condition which would cause them to wander from their safe environment.  With this in mind, the Department initiated the “Safe Watch Program.”  This is a voluntary program designed to proactively gather pertinent and recent information on individuals in our community who suffer from these conditions so that if a person should go missing, we are prepared immediately to begin an informed search.  It enables us to deploy resources constructively with the best chance of returning the individual to their safe environment as quickly as possible, while also giving us specific information about the individual to safely and properly communicate and handle them.

Prior to the development of the “Safe Watch Program,” the Saugus Police had the “Alzheimer’s Safety Program.”  As this evolved into the “Safe Watch Program” the focus been to branch out and ensure those with other needs are included.  Some examples of those who would fall under this program are those who suffer from:

  •  Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Autism
  • Blindness/Deafness
  • Diabetes
  • Mental Health Issues
  • Other Developmental/Physical Disabilities
