Saugus Police Arrest Pair of Burglary Suspects Early This Morning

SAUGUS — Police Chief Domenic J. Dimella announces that the Saugus Police Department, acting swiftly overnight, arrested a pair of alleged burglars.

JOSE M. CORREIA, AGE 48 OF DORCHESTER and JAMILE RIOS, AGE 20, ALSO OF DORCHESTER were arrested and charged with:

  • Breaking and entering in the Nighttime to Commit a Felony
  • Receiving Stolen Property Over $250
  • Malicious Destruction of Property Over $250

Additionally, RIOS was charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

Saugus Police responded to a commercial business on Lincoln Avenue at 1:20 a.m. on Monday after being alerted by the alarm company and receiving a 911 call from an alert neighbor reporting a possible break-in.

Officers noticed damaged to the front door and a broken side window immediately upon arrival. A witness alerted police to a black Mercedes Benz with two male occupants leaving the area.

A vehicle matching the description was found a short distance away, minutes later, being driven by RIOS, with CORREIA in the passenger seat. Inside the car, in plain view, officers saw several pieces of electronics that matched products known to be sold at the business that had been burglarized. After speaking with the owner of the business, the electronics were matched by serial number to the store they were stolen from.

“This was a swift show of force by the Saugus Police Department in responding to a break-in, and arresting the two suspects right away,” Chief Dimella said. “I applaud the aggressive work of the Saugus Police Department in sending a stern message to would-be burglars.”

The two men were arrested and transported to Saugus Police for booking. When RIOS was being processed, officers noticed several pieces of broken glass that matched the thickness of the broken storefront window. The glass was collected as evidence.

Police also recovered a cell phone inside the business that was believed to have been dropped by one of the suspects.
