SAUGUS — Chief Michael Ricciardelli reports that Saugus Police are actively investigating after a man in a wheelchair was struck by a motor vehicle earlier today.

At approximately 11:45 a.m. Saugus Police responded to a report of a man who was struck by a motor vehicle in the area of 1500 Broadway (Route 99).

Upon arrival officers located a 60-year-old Revere man who uses a wheelchair who had been hit by a blue Chrysler 300 sedan. The man was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

After an on-scene investigation, police determined that the driver, a 74-year-old Malden woman, did not see the man when she was entering the road after exiting a parking lot and making a left hand turn. The man was crossing the roadway in close proximity to a traffic light at the time of the crash, and the driver had a green light. The driver remained on scene.

There is no crosswalk, nor are there pedestrian lights in the vicinity of where the crash took place.

Saugus Police are actively investigating the incident. No further information is available at this time.
